Digital signage program update

by Anonymous in , , ,

In light of recent questions about the digital signage program at CSUCI, I'm pleased to provide you with a history and overview of the program.

In 2017, the University began an evaluation of its digital signage environment, and documented documented 43 screens in 14 different locations.

Through the evaluation process, several issues were identified:

  1. There was no central method to manage critical campus messaging to all digital signage
  2. The previous process to configure & maintain digital signs wasn’t scalable or sustainable. Information Technology Services (ITS) had a standard for digital signs displays, but it took considerable time to install & configure each screen. In addition, ITS needed to go out and touch each device to update or patch devices.
  3. Displayed information on digital signs were not consistently formatted, due to the variety of digital signage approaches that were used.
With the support of Associated Students Inc at CSUCI, and in collaboration with Communication & Marketing, ITS identified requirements and completed an evaluation and selection process to choose a central digital signage vendor.

After completing their evaluation and sharing the results, Brightsign hardware and Carousel software were selected by the evaluation team for the initial system implementation, and implementation began in 2018. At present, new digital signage screens are deployed in Madera Hall and the Student Union.

All departments requesting new digital signage screens shall participate in the program. For existing screens, participation in the digital signage program for existing screens is optional at present; however, campus organizations that are planning to upgrade their existing screens in the next 12-24 months should plan to participate in this program.

Interested in obtaining new digital signage or upgrading your current signage? ITS has published a knowledgebase article describing how to get started.

If you have any questions about the signage program, please contact Dawn Canfield, Manager of User Services at dawn.canfield@csuci.edu.

Changes are Coming to CI Records: Maintenance Begins Thursday March 22nd at 4:00 PM!

by in , , , , , , , , , , ,

Tomorrow, Thursday March 22nd, CI Records will be shut down at 4:00 pm to prepare, upgrade and convert it into the two new information systems, CI Records and CI Personnel.

On Monday March 26th CI Records will split into two systems, CI Records and CI Personnel. CI Records will remain as CI’s Student Information System, and CI Personnel will become CI’s Human Resources Information System. This change, which originated from our software vendor (Oracle) and which is now being implemented across all CSU campuses, will separate the one information system into two.

What this means for you:

If you are a Student:

  • You will continue to access and manage your student registration, payment, and enrollment information in CI Records. No changes are being made to the most common student processes.

If you are a Student employee:

  • All student employees will complete timesheets, report absences, and view vacation & sick time balances in CI Personnel.

If you are a Faculty member:

  • You will continue to access course, grades, and advising functions in CI Records. There are no changes to any of these operations or processes.
  • All faculty will complete timesheets, report absences, and view vacation & sick time balances in CI Personnel.

If you are a Staff employee:

  • All staff will complete timesheets, report absences, and view vacation & sick time balances in CI Personnel.

Accessing CI Records

CI Records will continue to be available through the myCI portal.

Accessing CI Personnel

CI Personnel will be available through CI’s myCI portal and will be included in the list of services available.

Simply log into myCI and click on the new CI Personnel icon to log in. This button will become available to faculty and staff by 8:00AM on Monday March, 26th.

by in , , , , , , , , ,

On Saturday, Feb. 3, the CSU Chancellor’s Office in concert with Unisys, our CI Records and CI Financials data center hosting provider, will be migrating all of the CSU’s PeopleSoft data center functions to a new, more efficient data center.

CSUCI Technology & Innovation personnel have been working throughout the development and testing process to verify successful communication between CSUCI and the new data center, and to date all testing has been successful.

What this means for you:

  • CI Records and CI Financials will be unavailable from midnight on Saturday Feb. 3 to no later than noon on Feb. 4 (36 hours).
  • This will include ALL CI Records/CI Financials services impacting HR, Student, and Finance systems as well as the CSU System-wide Finance Data Warehouse.
  • Additional information regarding the data center move may be found here:

Please contact T&I Director of Enterprise Services and Security Neal Fisch at neal.fisch@csuci.edu with any questions about maintenance.  Thank you for your cooperation in helping the CSU and CSUCI's technology environment up-to-date!

Reminder: Major Network and Systems Downtime Scheduled for Tomorrow 5/30/2015

by in , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

In order to take the next step in our ongoing network upgrade process, we will need to shut down major services between 8am and 8pm on Saturday, May 30. During that time, all campus telephones as well as wired and wireless on the campus will be completely unavailable. In addition, all faculty and staff email services will be suspended during that time. (Email will be queued and will be delivered to your mailbox in the hours after services are resumed.) MyCI (other than email), CI Learn, CI Records, and other major services will be available, but only from off campus.

We have scheduled this essential project during a time that we expect will cause as little inconvenience as possible. If, however, you have any concerns regarding this outage please contact Carlos Miranda (carlos.miranda@csuci.edu) or Herb Aquino (herb.aquino@csuci.edu) and we will help you work around the outage if possible.

Thanks for your support as we work hard to improve the speed and reliability of the campus network.

Faster network coming to CI

by in , , , , , , , , , , , ,

After many months of planning, the campus is less than two weeks away from faster, stronger Internet access as the Technology Infrastructure team will be visiting each building over a span of 11 days to upgrade network connectivity.

During the planned upgrades, campus telephones, Internet access, wireless connectivity, and network connectivity for myCI, PeopleSoft, CI Learn, CI Records, CI Financials, CI Docs, CI Sync, etc. will not be available. Additionally, access to the campus wireless network from a different building than your own may not be available due to certain resources being bound to your location/workstation.

The upgrade process begins March 16 at Sage Hall and will continue through March 31. Installation in each building will take approximately four hours. You can review the planned schedule here to verify your building’s planned upgrade.

Ultimately, wireless access speeds will increase by 2 times, while wired access will increase by 10 times.

For more information, go to www.csuci.edu/tc or email questions to Herb Aquino, Manager of Technology Infrastructure at herb.aquino@csuci.edu

CI Docs is coming!

by in , , , , ,

As you may know, Dolphin Email, our student email system, is powered by Google Apps for Education. Dolphin Email has made access to email for CI students more seamless and reliable. As part of Google Apps for Education, Dolphin Email provides greater storage capacity, seamless integration with key campus systems, a secure and stable infrastructure, and a user interface that is familiar to many students.
Students and faculty have been asking for faster and easier ways to share and collaborate on documents. To address this need, we're pleased to announce that this fall, the Division of Technology & Communication will be rolling out a new service called CI Docs.

CI Docs leverages the same Google Apps for Education platform used for Dolphin Email, and includes Google Drive and the Google Documents collaboration system. CI Docs will provide web-based document creation, real-time collaboration, and versatile sharing options for the CI community.

With CI Docs, students and faculty will be able to create and collaborate on documents, spreadsheets and presentations using only a web browser; no additional software will be required. In addition, CI Docs users will be able to share those documents with friends, other students, faculty and colleagues, and control access for viewing and editing of those documents.

CI Docs users will be able to upload and view many common file types to CI Docs using Google Drive. CI Docs even enables users to convert certain types of uploaded files (like Microsoft Office documents) to Google Docs format, which enables online, real-time collaboration.

In addition, students will be able to access CI Docs anywhere and anytime, including using mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Forgot your thumb drive at home? No problem; files stored in CI Docs can be accessed from anywhere you have access to a modern web browser, such as Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Internet Explorer.

Initially, CI Docs will be available to CI students only, but we expect to make CI Docs available to faculty and staff later this fall.

To learn more about CI Docs features, please visit the Google Docs support web site. Stay tuned here for further announcements about this new service, and post your comments or questions here.
