I'm pleased to share our monthly bulletin, which provides a summary of activities & accomplishments for the department of Information Technology Services over the previous month, and what's coming this month.
Coming in April
- April 23: CI Docs (Google Docs) workshop, offered through PDPE
- April 24: Intro to Qualtrics for electronic survey & form creation, offered through PDPE
- April 24: LinkedIn on-site visit & workshop for students, offered through Career Center
- April 24: LinkedIn Solutions for Higher Education workshop for faculty & staff, offered through ITS
User Services
- Coordinated and co-hosted EkhoTech Talks (technology “Speed Dating”) event on 3/14/2019.
- Promoting user outreach and training through release of the EkhoTech-101 Canvas course, a joint effort between IT and TLI
- We are finalizing the FY 18/19 MSFT purchases for labs and classrooms so that installations may be planned for the summer.
- Promoted the need for departments to plan to refresh old computers and to plan to upgrade to Windows 10
Application Services
- Move to Production has been scheduled for the following items for 4/2/2019:
- Watermark/VIA Interface
- Canvas LMS Integration updates
- Island View Orientation (IVO) Registration Import
- Enterprise Document Management (EDM) Interface
- Work continues on the implementation and rollout of Med-Proctor to support the Immunization Records Executive Order from the CO by Shawn Bochat
- Work continues on Student Financials Summer/Fall configuration activities and MSLI setup by Lacey Lovejoy
- Work continues on the Campus Logic project for Financial Aid by Wayne Goodwin
- PeopleTools Upgrade to 8.56 tasks continues with move-to-production scheduled for the weekend of April 5-8
- Maintenance packs MP 6.03 currently being tested with PeopleTools Upgrade and will be migrated to our production CI Records and CI Personnel 4/2/2019
- Application Services continued supporting the following operations and projects:

Infrastructure
- Tied in our System Center computer database to the Dell Warranty API so techs can pull warranty information for computers in an easier fashion
- Worked on and finalized the upcoming email banner to warn faculty and staff users if the email is an external email or not
- Tested a new Storage Migration Service that will be able to orchestrate migrations from older versions of Windows Servers to newer ones. This will help facilitate some of our older servers reaching end of Microsoft support life.
- Completed installation/termination of data cabling for adding CCTV cameras throughout Anacapa and Santa Cruz Villages
- Coordinated install of new camera for Anacapa and Santa Cruz Villages
- Ongoing work to discover options for campus phone system replacement
- Consulted with campus Police Department for locating temporary cameras for Commencement in new location
- Ongoing work with Police Department (“SAFE project”) to determine areas of campus safety/security that need enhancement and to gather data and costs associated with these enhancements
- Conducted site survey with AT&T engineers toward replacement of two campus internet circuits
- Upgraded Microsoft Identity Management Portal, Sharepoint server (2013 to 2016), and migrated the SQL database that it runs on (SQL 2012 to 2016)
- StarRez upgrade from 10.4 to 10.5
- More work on Blackboard Transaction Server (BBTS) online photo submission project. We had a successful test importing a photo from BBTS to BadgePass.
Information Security
- Carlos Miranda continues to address campus reported phishing email attempts
- Neal Fisch completed the following regular audits:
- Monthly - Segregation of Duties in PeopleSoft
- Monthly - System Access vs. Terminated EE’s
- Quarterly Data Center and Oracle Account Audit
- Information Security continued support of daily security operations and administration
- CI’s Annual SOD (Segregation of Duties) Report has been completed and is awaiting CFO signature
Project Management
- Ecovox energy management system training for Facilities Services has been completed, loading of data into the system continues, and project is on-track for go-live in April.
- Assessment management system for School of Education (VIA by Watermark) launched on 3/28
- Completed demonstration of ESM Campus Marketplace for ITS stakeholders
- Melissa Bergem will be leading a workshop on collaboration using CI Docs for the campus community through the Professional Development & Personal Enrichment (PDPE) program. You can RSVP here: https://www.csuci.edu/hr/training/pdpe/in-person.htm
- Asha Ramachandra led a workshop on document sharing & collaboration using Dropbox through the Professional Development & Personal Enrichment (PDPE) program.
Web Services
- Completed 46 support tickets in March
- Completed database upgrade in preparation for housing management system (StarRez) upgrade to web-based interface (StarRez Portal X)
- Kevin Craig led 2 workshops in Microsoft Excel techniques for the campus community through the Professional Development & Personal Enrichment (PDPE) team

Administration (AVP’s office)
- In collaboration with the Career Center, LinkedIn will be visiting CSUCI on Wednesday, April 24 at 2PM to lead 2 events for students, faculty and staff on how to optimize the use of LinkedIn platform for networking, career development, recruiting and outreach. Please contact Peter Mosinskis for event details.
- The IT Policy & Planning Committee met to complete its initial review of the major IT project portfolio as part of the spring 2019 review cycle. The list of in progress (and newly proposed) projects can be viewed here: https://www.csuci.edu/its/projects/spring2019.htm
- Prepared response to Digital Accessibility questions from the Chancellor’s Office
- Researched and prepared report on Veoci emergency management communication system findings for VP BFA
- Participated in CSU CIO executive briefing for Adobe Sign and Adobe contract in San Jose on 3/13.
- Participated in CSU CIO forum for Amazon Web Services at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on 3/26.
